My first car was a 1965 FJ-40 that my dad gave me when I got my drivers
license, so I've always been around the old 'Cruisers. I like the
heavy metal of the body, the simple sturdy mechanicals, and the complete
lack of plastic (unlike the current Mall Terrain Vehicle Land Cruiser).
They define the word "bulletproof" for me. So when my uncle decided
to sell his '64, I jumped at the chance. It had spent most of its
life sitting and was pressed into use mostly when deer season rolled
around so I knew what I was getting into (or so I thought). The original
plan was to just throw some paint on it, but with 2 coats of Earl Schibe
over the factory red, it just wasn't going to happen. It evolved
into a complete disassembly, sandblasting, re-painting, and refurbishment.
The goal now is to have a Land Cruiser that is 100% reliable and faithful
to the original design except where absolutely necessary. Follow along
as I build....
THE CRUSHER!
The what?
