1978 HONDA XR-75 RESTORATION

I've always wondered just how many people took their first motorcycle ride on an XR-75.  I got mine brand-new for junior high graduation.  I rode the snot out of it for about 3 years, then it got handed down through two brothers who rode it for at least another 10 years.  As time went on, life got in the way of our riding and eventually it ended up "resting" in Grandma's back yard.  One day I was helping Grandma and saw the old beast sitting under a bush next to the house.  A quick look found that it was definitely neglected, dirty and faded, but in surprisingly good mechanical shape.  So.... look what followed me home from Grandma's house.

IN THE BEGINNING.....

So, how do you restore a motorcycle?  Beats me... Let's look on the Web and see what sort of resources are out there.  Surprisingly, there is some good stuff out there.  Probably the most important item I've found so far is the Dennis Kirk ATV & Dirt Bike catalog that you can order here.  It took a couple of weeks to get, but was definitely worth the wait.  I found the fenders, side covers, clutch cable, chain, rear sprocket, fork seals, etc. in there - and at very reasonable prices.

WHAT I STARTED WITH.....

I believe this is what they call "rough condition". I've got another page of close-ups and details that you can see here (soon).

Check back soon to see more.....
